In a development that will benefit all within the school community, Withington Girls' School is approaching the final stages of a building project to extend and upgrade its catering and dining areas.

The project will deliver a spacious, bright and modern two-storey facility that will create versatile spaces, according to Withington's Headmistress, Mrs Sarah Haslam, and will reflect the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the school. Included in the works are an extension of the existing dining area to accommodate additional seating and upgrades to the kitchen facilities and serving areas with state-of-the-art equipment and fittings. Decor and furnishings will also be updated.

Mrs Haslam said: "The dining areas are where pupils and staff gather to relax and catch up with friends and colleagues while enjoying a tasty and nutritious meal or snack. We've missed being able to dine together as we did before the pandemic, so we're delighted that this exciting project will transform the dining experience for our pupils and sustain our focus on health and wellbeing."

The building work will include a first-floor extension over the existing dining room to create a flexible, multi-purpose room with a terrace from which spectators can watch sporting activities on the adjacent sports facilities and playing fields. The project also encompasses the refurbishment of the Senior School library and a dedicated area for Learning Support.

Major building work on the project took place over the summer holidays with completion expected during the Spring term of 2022.

Withington's next Open Days are on the 4th and 6th November - visit www.wgs.org for details.
