Students at Tytherington School were involved in a week of activities and events to mark 75 years since VE Day and VJ Day. Like many other organisations, Tytherington School had to adapt their remembrance activities because of the ongoing covid-19 pandemic.
Year 11 textiles students helped to create a powerful reception display to reflect the British Legion's campaign this year to honour this all those who served on the home front. The British Legion also asked people to reflect on the sacrifices made by our key workers during the last few months of the COVID pandemic.
During RE lessons, students were encouraged to write poems of remembrance. These were displayed in the Jubilee Block.
The English department also ran a poetry competition. This year's competition was won by Tilly Bodimeade in year 8.
All students also took part in a Virtual whole school led by Miss Wallett from the History department.
As we were not able to welcome the entire school outside this year, we asked the Heads of Year to nominate two students from every year group to represent their year groups. Students were joined by our fantastic Air and Sea cadets as well as our musicians and Mr Lilley, who played the Last Post before the Union Jack was raised. The service was led by Mr Botwe.
Headteacher, Manny Botwe, said: "It is important that the school came together to commemorate especially during these difficult times. Although things were different this year, the school did a great job to ensure that we appropriately showed our respect for those whose bravery and sacrifice enable us to live a life of freedom."
