MACCLESFIELD MP David Rutley is backing an initiative to get the town’s hospitality sector back in action as the country comes out of lockdown.

Macclesfield Hospitality Action (MHA) is a group of businesses who either work directly in the sector or as support service providers.

It is working to “make a go” of the post lockdown hospitality economy in the town and has been talking with local government to ensure businesses can re-open safely and successfully.

MHA members have spoken with the MP about their needs – including a shared space in the town centre for operators to create ‘pop-ups’.

They also talked about the need for a business rates review, VAT reductions and other support the hospitality industry needs in the post-lockdown world.

Meanwhile, Mr Rutley has called on people in the town to get behind local businesses as they re-open.

He said: “Let’s give local businesses all our support as we move to the next phase in easing lockdown restrictions - particularly those in the retail and hospitality sectors, as many are small and medium-sized enterprises.”
