Experienced GT3 racing driver Jordan Witt is delighted to confirm he has today, Thursday, 13th February, signed a deal with top team Barwell Motorsport to remain with the squad for the 2020 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.

Nantwich 29-year-old Witt, who impressed in his first season racing a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO with Barwell last year in the then Blancpain Endurance Cup, is looking forward to putting everything he learned into practice as he sets his sights on a challenge for Silver Cup honours.

Making good progress in 2019 with the Surrey squad, Witt achieved his maiden Silver class victory in the immensely competitive GT3 championship during the blue riband twice-round-the-clock Total 24 Hours of Spa in Belgium.

This year eyeing a consistent challenge for podiums and big points to mount a sustained bid for the coveted title, Witt will form part of a very strong three driver line-up alongside fellow experienced British racer Alex MacDowall and Danish driver Frederik Schandorff.

“I’m feeling really confident for the new season”, said Witt, who is backed in 2020 by Vibe British Audio and Yelir World, “I started to get to know the Lamborghini last year, it took some time to get used to the rear of the car moving around – it’s unlike anything I’d raced before – but we made good progress and obviously won the class at the Spa 24 Hours which was amazing.

“Barwell is, honestly, a true top-level team. There was no question where I wanted to be this year after working with the guys so well last season. They’re only there to win and you never question any decisions they make, it’s a fantastic team. I’m aiming to be on the podium, but the main aim is to stay consistent with good points – with the big focus on the extra points at Paul Ricard and Spa.”

Cheshire racer Witt first tasted success in GT racing when winning the GTC class in British GT in 2011 with Chevron Racing. Also competing in GT Cup, Witt then switched to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship where he performed strongly in the Pro-Am and A1 classes.

His breakthrough year came in 2016 where, at the wheel of a privately entered Bentley Continental GT3, Witt dominated the GT Cup to secure an outstanding championship victory – taking no fewer than 19 race wins along the way during a busy season.

Racing in Europe for the first time in 2017 with the Bentley, he contested the International GT Open and took three victories en-route to eighth in the championship. Debuting in Blancpain Endurance Cup the following year, switching to Nissan power with GT Sport Motul Team RJN, Witt took his maiden podium in the category and also made selected appearances in British GT.

Last season came the move to Barwell and the Lamborghini, requiring a change in driving style for Witt with the Huracan an entirely different prospect to the Bentley and Nissan. In addition to his outings in Blancpain, he also became a podium finisher in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo and made a one-off return to driving a Bentley with Team Parker Racing in British GT.

Witt’s first official outing of 2020 with Barwell will come during the pre-season test at Paul Ricard in France on 12th/13th March. The opening round of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup then takes place over the weekend 18th/19th April at Monza in Italy.

From there, the championship will visit Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit on 9th/10th May before the six-hour ‘into the night’ race at Paul Ricard on Saturday, 30th May. Following the official Total 24 Hours of Spa test day at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium on 16th/17th June, the big race will be contested on 25th/26th July. Germany’s Nurburgring hosts the finale on 5th/6th September.
