Annabel Hawkins, 18, from Macclesfield, was awarded four A*s in maths, further maths, computer science and phys- ics and will go up to Murray Edwards College, Cambridge University. Annabel also excelled to gain her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. Zac Ransom, 18, from Mac- clesfield, got his A*s in busi- ness, economics and sport and will take a year out working at King’s as a sports coach next year before heading to university. And Matthew Ennis, 18, fromMacclesfield, got his A*s in psychology, chemistry and biol- ogy. The accomplished rugby player will study biomedical science at Sheffield University. Talented actor andmusician, Seb Fitzgerald, 18, from the High Peak, is bound for New College, Oxford, to study Arabic and ultimatelywants to work in international journalism. Seb got A*s in history, French and Spanishwith anA inAS drama. King’s Head of Foundation Jason Slack said: “For this year group to gain the best A-Level results in the school’s history is a tremendous achievement and testament to their hard work and application.” KING’S GCSE students bucked the national trend as results continued to improve at the Macclesfield school. Although national figures showed some grade deflation, at King’s grades have been on theupandup, witha small but significant increase this year. Some 60 per cent of all grades were at 9 to 7 or (A*/A) with 36 per cent at 9/8 or (A*) and80per cent at 9 to6 (A*- B). Aquarter of pupils achieved at least 9 x 9 - 7s (A*/A). And 20 students achieved 10 x 9 to 7s (A*/A).The results also showed 70 per cent of pupils got a 9/8 (A*) in at least one subject. The grades were the best ever produced by students that the Macclesfield school’s head of foundation Jason Slack described as “a wonderful group of young adults”. The results mean King’s will inevitably climb even higher in the national academic league tables. An amazing 55 per cent of all grades were A*/A; 83 per cent were A* to B with half of all students gaining an A* in at least one subject. Seven students achieved at least three A*s. They include Asher Raymon, 17, from Con- gleton, who got his clean sweep in maths, computer science and physics and will study computer science at Manches- ter University. Harry Shanahan, 18, from Macclesfield, got three A* in maths, further maths and computer science with an A in Physics. Harry, will also study
