It was fourth time lucky for the Greenbank School Parents' Association Dinner Dance.

The Cheadle Hulme independent preparatory school had to delay so often that the new event happily coincided with their 70th anniversary celebration.

However, it was worth the wait with parents dancing late into the night at Bramhall Golf Club, raising over £7,000 for the Parents' Association to spend on an adventure trail for the children.

Organiser Nicola Buchanan said: "After all the difficulties we've faced over the last couple of years, it was amazing to finally be able to come together to celebrate the school's 70th anniversary in style and raise an incredible amount of money in the process."

Nicola added: "One guest commented, 'My mum and dad were pictured in Cheshire Life for the 50th anniversary and still have the copy of the magazine to this day, so it's wonderful to retain that bond.'"

Opened in 1951 in a converted private house by former Cheadle Hulme School teacher Carl Osborne, who after returning from fighting in World War Two, wanted to open his own innovative school, Greenbank on Heathbank Road has expanded ever since.

The school retains the same traditions today and in recent years has won national awards for ecology and value for money.

Headmaster, former GB canoeist Malcolm Johnson, said: "A strong relationship between home and school characterises a happy and effective school and the wonderful support of our parents is truly inspiring."
