Global best-selling children’s author Tracey Corderoy explored the imaginative power of the written word on World Book Day at Loreto Preparatory School.

A former primary school teacher, Tracey began writing in 2006, “but was first published only in 2010, after quite a bit of self-doubt and heartache.”

Now she has written 70 books including picture books for the very young, illustrated books for emerging readers and novels for the eight-year-old market.

Her characters include reformed robber dogs Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam, who gave up a life of crime to bake and give back to the needy.

Tracey, from Port Talbot in the Welsh Valleys, said: “The aim is to give the children a wonderful journey into the world of books; make it a colourful, immersive, interactive experience and enable them to write their own stories.”

Loreto Preparatory School Headteacher Anne Roberts said: “World Book Day is always a red-letter day in our calendar. The girls love dressing up as their favourite characters and swapping their favourite books.”

“This year having Tracey for the day, a teacher turned best-selling writer, was even more special, as she has years of experience in engaging and enthusing a class and leaving them spellbound with her characters.”
