As part of National Apprenticeships Week, local MP, David Rutley, visited Macclesfield College, to review the positive progress it continues to make in supporting its students into apprenticeships, training and employment.

On his visit, David met with the College's Principal and Chief Executive, Ms Rachel Kay, who updated him on the wide range of work that the College is undertaking to promote apprenticeship opportunities for local residents. David was pleased to learn that the number of apprentices enrolled on programme's arranged through the College has increased to 608 - up by nearly a third compared to last year's figures. Importantly, over 90 per cent of those who complete their apprenticeship go on to secure full time roles or gain promotion within their workplace.

The College has its own dedicated in-house team of apprenticeship experts, Maxim Business Training, who can help applicants secure a position in a wide range of industries, including engineering, construction, science and development, computing, hospitality, leisure and management. Their support means that applicants can really hit the ground running when they leave school or college, and giving them an edge in the competitive apprenticeships market. The College works directly with over 400 local employers, ranging from large, multinational companies such as AstraZeneca and Siemens, through to small-and-medium-sized enterprises and micro-business start-ups.

Speaking after his visit, David said, "Macclesfield College continues to make great strides in boosting apprenticeship opportunities in our area, building on its highly successful track record. This work makes a huge difference in the lives of the young people it supports, whilst helping to address skills gaps and promote economic growth in our region at the same time. I congratulate all at the College on this positive work, and look forward to keeping in touch with this important work in the months ahead."
