Loreto Grammar School has appointed academic and sportswoman Nicola Walker to their senior management team.

Nicola returns to faith education from neighbours, Altrincham Grammar School, where appointed Head of Physical Education in 2008 and Assistant Vice Principal in 2014.

Nicola, who has a first-class degree in Physical Education from Sheffield Hallam, will be Deputy Head responsible for the quality of education.

Nicola, who is married with a son and daughter, said: "Working at a similar school nearby I was very aware of what an opportunity it would be to secure this post at such a special school where the values resonate with my own. Having spent eight years at the start of my career in Catholic education, it felt like a natural step back into a faith school where I could make a difference and support students in their spiritual, academic and personal journeys."

Nicola, who still plays netball but admits with a smile to being, "a bit rusty now', has taken up endurance running and has just completed the famous SAS Fandance selection route up the Pen Y Fan in the Brecon Beacons.

She takes that same sense of challenge into her approach to teaching: "My educational approach is based on challenging and supporting young people to develop their talents, instilling in them the confidence to make their way in the world and be successful in the things that matter most to them.

"In my own classroom, I engage students by ensuring that the learning is relevant, challenging and that students see the value in their work. I am passionate about the leadership of people and hope to make a positive impact on the quality of education and beyond in this special community."

Loreto Headteacher Jane Beever said: "Everyone at Loreto is absolutely thrilled to welcome Nicola to our team. She brings a wealth of experience in not only teaching and learning but in extra-curricular provision and very much shares our Catholic Christian values."
