Craft volunteers of all ages are sought to join an enthusiastic 40-strong team of volunteers at Northwich's multi-award winning, Lion Salt Works Museum and a rolling programme of volunteers at Chester's Grosvenor Museum. Both museums engage their youngest visitors through an imaginative range of children's craft activities, run through the year. To find out more about becoming a volunteer, contact Jonathan Nash by emailing jonathan.nash@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk.

Would-be craft volunteers will be supported and trained by experienced staff, and craft activities would suit anyone who enjoys working with children and likes to be 'hands-on'. Craft volunteers prepare materials and help children to do exciting, informal learning activities. In total, sessions last no more than three hours. Craft activities take place during term time and school holidays, as well as occasionally supporting museum activities at the weekend. Volunteers sign up to a rota, so can offer help at times that suit them.

Young people, over the age of 16, who are working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award's volunteering module are encouraged to join the Museum's volunteering team.

Councillor Louise Gittin, Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, said: "Volunteers are valued and welcomed throughout Cheshire West & Chester's four museums. Their commitment to bringing the arts, heritage and culture to the children and adults of Cheshire is outstanding. We are very grateful for the contribution to museums and to the happiness they bring their young audiences. We very much hope that volunteers who want to become craft volunteers will come forward and be part of our winning teams."

The Lion Salt Works Museum tells the story of salt through fun, interactive displays and has won nine awards, many national, since its four-year £10m restoration in 2015. The Grosvenor Museum in Chester houses collections exploring the history of Chester, its art and silver heritage, and its natural history. The Museum's hands-on-displays about the Roman military occupation of Chester is always popular and visitors can also see the Period House, with rooms from the 17th century to the 1920s. There is a year round programme of special exhibitions and events and there is also an inspiring schools programme.
