CAPTAIN cool Christian Smith took the last three wickets as King's Macclesfield beat Manchester Grammar School by a single run to lift the AJIS under-11 regional cup final.

MGS had seemingly been cruising to victory on 74 without loss chasing 102, when the King's bowlers began to snaffle wickets courtesy of accurate line and length and supportive fielding.

James Waters set up the win with an incisive spell but Christian Smith finished the job with three quick wickets to take the silverware by a single run.

After opting to bat first, King's had amassed a defendable total of 102-4 from their 16 overs, with Charlie Kaye (19), Christian Smith (27 ret) and Joe Moores (28 ret) the main contributors.

Coach Nick Barker said: "This was a fantastic performance from all of the boys and they deserve great credit for their outstanding efforts through the season."
