MACCLESFIELD Town boss Sol Campbell wants his side to keep the focus and retain the character that saw them gain a massive three points against fellow league strugglers Yeovil.

Speaking after the game he said: “I think the lads played really well. Everyone stuck to their task and everyone stayed focused.

“It was a massive game for us. We need the points more than them really. But no one’s going to give you points, you’ve got to earn your right. And the lads put a magnificent shift in.

“We’ve been in this situation before but I feel now the guys are really, really focused and this result has done them the world of good. It’s done everyone the world of good.

“We needed a clean sheet, we needed to score goals and we needed a performance. And we needed a bit of luck, you always need that. You’ve got to work hard and a little bit of luck kicks in.

“We need this from now until the end of the season. It’s all about character now. It’s not fitness anymore, it’s character and how you apply yourself.”

The result put the Silkmen just three points from safety in League Two. Campbell believes the Macc fans have their part to play in helping his side achieve the great escape and retain their Football League status.

He added: “All of the fans are so part of the club, and we truly appreciate all of the effort that they are putting in to go and watch the lads.

“We really appreciate their support and they are a big, big part of the club, thank you for supporting the lads.”

Looking at the task ahead he added: “It is the sharp end of the season now, the business end when it comes to us staying up.”
