The annual Macclesfield Castle Rotary swimathon reached a new high on Sunday at Macclesfield leisure centre with 200 swimmers covering some 1500 kilometres to raise what we hope will be substantial monies for local charities.

There were several teams who have completed before from local schools, and churches, scout and guide groups, hospital departments and other local charities including ROAR, Macclesfield Wildlife explorers and some Rotary teams.  It is hoped the event will have raised over £6000 for the local charities.

Macclesfield MP David Rutley attended as well as our Town Mayor His Worship The Mayor Adam Scholfield who said ‘ This is an excellent event to help local groups fundraise for their chosen charities and the Rotary club’s organisation made everything run so well, so I do hope that they all reach their targets’.  Alec Johnston the event organiser said ‘ The atmosphere was vibrant and the many spectators gave great encouragement to all the teams. If you would like to take part next year book 15th March 2020 in your diaries.’
