Creative Media NHC students from Macclesfield College gained valuable experience whilst filming a charity boxing match, in which Cheshire Police were participants, at The Midlands Hotel in Manchester on Friday 21st September.
The Charity Boxing match was in memory of Danny McCallum who served in Cheshire Constabulary for 28 years. He was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer last September and died earlier this year in January.
Macclesfield College is home to an in-house media agency named BigMacc Productions which is ran by Yeng Roberts and current Creative Media Production students. The team work with a range of local businesses and organisations to develop promotional videos. Previous clients have included Age UK, Siemens, Things 3D and the NHS.
The students who filmed and edited he content from the event. Estelle Hulse, Tom Thomas, Jake Lownds, Callam Swinton and Adam Horsley, not only saw this as an opportunity to upskill and test their filming, editing and production management skills, but it also gave them the essential experience needed to do this in a live setting.
Yeng Roberts manages BigMacc Productions and saw the event as invaluable experience for the students to not only engage with the community but also work on their skills.
"The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves as everything they're ever filmed has been pre-planned, so having the opportunity to film an event where anything goes is hugely valuable and makes their CV's stand out," she said.
She continued, "Industry experience is what the Creative Media department prides itself on, and we're extremely proud with how professional they were at the event."
The evening is expected to have raised in excess of £15,000 from the proceeds of the ticket sales, sponsorship, raffle and auction, as well as a huge of £5,600 raised via the JustGiving page. The event has been stamped a 'successful venture' in memory of Danny for his family and for the charities Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and The Hospice of Good Shepherd.
The team is hoping to raise additional money for the charities through the sale of photographs taken by the students at the event and also through DVD sales.
