CHESHIRE’S Paralympian legend Sarah Storey returned to her old college to celebrate the success of its latest prize winning students. The OBE holder was guest speaker at Cheadle and Marple Sixth Form College’s Reunion and Awards Evening. In her inspirational speech, Sarah told the students: “As Mohammed Ali said Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them – a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have the skill and the will, but the will must be stronger than the skill.

“It doesn’t matter what your dreams or ambitions are for the rest of your life, everyone needs to have a sense of purpose and a determination to succeed. If you’re willing to work harder than anyone else then you can be the best at whatever you want to be and then the sky’s the limit.” She added: “Just remember that you can do whatever you want to do provided that you put your mind to it. When you get up in the morning you must put in 100% for that day – nothing else is good enough and trust me, when you get to do whatever it is you want to do, it’s the greatest feeling in the world. If you follow your dreams, you won’t go far wrong.” Among those honoured on the night was Dan Jenkinson, 19, from Bramhall, who received the Principal’s Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement.

Dan’s hard work, sense of humour and outstanding ability were an encouragement and a delight for both his tutors and fellow students. Throughout his time at college, his attendance was excellent as was his enthusiasm and general approach to his studies and Dan even found time to participate in various charity events.
