A Stockport based female a cappella chorus have won a silver medal at the 2018 National Barbershop Competition on Saturday 27th October.

Crystal Chords ladies harmony chorus are a group of over 40 women who sing in 4 part harmony barbershop style. Rehearsing weekly, they compete locally and nationally and travelled to Harrogate to compete in the national barbershop competition held by the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers (LABBS).

The chorus competed against 25 other choruses from around the country. Each performed two songs for a panel of nine judges in front of an audience of 2000 people. Crystal Chords placed second in the country, winning a trophy and silver medals for each member.

Within the chorus a group of four singers who perform as ‘Barberlicious Quartet’ also won a silver medal in the national barbershop quartet competition which took place on Friday 26th October.

Crystal Chords Musical Director, Monica Funnell said: “As a chorus of women of varying ages and backgrounds, we are thrilled to have our performance rewarded with a National silver medal. We always enjoy performing at events around our local area but to be recognised for our hard work on a national scale demonstrates the quality of the chorus and the way the members all support each other to work as a team.”

Crystal Chords will be running a ‘Love to Sing’ course over 5 weeks starting January 10th 2019 and will be welcoming any ladies who enjoy singing and performing in an a capella style and would like to join the chorus for a free taster.
