With new twists to classic tales, outstanding dance and top com- edy there is something for every- one this month. Robert Louis Stevenson’s Gothic tale of a man haunted by a monster from within has been reimagined throughout history. This performance of The Strange Case of Jekyll & Hyde (2-3 March) has a very contemporary twist. Set deep within the American halls of power The President has fallen and the senate is sliding into chaos. A young independent, Major Henry Jekyll announces his can- Variety is the spice of life didacy to run the Oval Office. How- ever, as voting day edges nearer, suspicion grows around Jekyll’s mysterious and dangerous friend, Mister Edward Hyde. Perhaps best known for his role as hapless priest Father Dou- gall, comedian Ardal O’Hanlon (7 March) is back on the stage. Saddling his high horse, Ardal rides fearlessly into the culture wars as he tries to save the world from falling off its axis. Armed with the emergency response he knows best, comedy. The chilling play based on Charles Dicken’s classic thriller is The Black Veil (13-14 March). On a winter’s evening, newly qual- ified Doctor Stephen Ruggles, has an expected visitor, a mysterious veiled woman. Ruggles find himself being pulled into a tangled web of deceit and lies which ends in death…but for whom? The outstanding Transitions Dance Company (18 March) returns once more to the Opera House stage with an innovative dance works commissioned by H2Dance. This triple bill is a diverse pro- gramme which will hold a lens to societal issues, tinted with humour, beauty and physicality. English Touring Opera never fails to astound and this year’s Spring offerings will be no exception. St John Passion (26 March) is an immersive choral experience, where professional soloists per- form alongside choirs from across the country. Così Fan Tutte (27-28 March) is Mozart’s most enduring opera, a tale of young love and fidelity. Director Laura Attridge breathes new life into this opera and creates a Così unlike anything you have ever seen before.
